CINQ 388 Goals From the 2021 Spring Semester (Retreat Assignment)

  • Outcomes for Spring 2021
    • Project Goals (Responsibilities)
      • Prepare for field testing and continued implementation pathway      development (SC Society/SCCAN + Distribution)
      • April – Enter Stage 2 VentureWell Applications (or September after fieldwork – depends on if we have enough stakeholder information)
      • Request blood samples from Keystone (local blood bank) and LVHN
      • Train new members
      • Work on publication (not IEEE GHTC)
    • Research Goals (Responsibilities)
      • Specification testing 
      • Optimize material usage to reduce cost 
      • Storage of assembled test strips (humidity/temperature control)
    • Resources Needed
      • Space for lab
      • Establish Partnership with St. Luke’s/LVHN (IRB has been processed, waiting for a response)
      • Funds for continued test strip development 
  • Outcomes for Summer 2021
    • Project Goals (Responsibilities)
      • June – Re-enter DEBUT and NIH Applications (if applicable) 
      • June – Mountaintop (continued test strip development – shelf life)                                                          
      • August – Hopefully, visit Sierra Leone for fieldwork (COVID-19 permitting)
      • Submit publication 
    • Research Goals (Responsibilities)
      • Begin running tests with patients/continue with human blood samples
      • Demonstrate to SL clinicians how to use strip, read outcome
      • Testing specificity and efficiency of the tests (based on experiment outputs at that point in time)
      • Blood viscosity variations (dehydration) 
    • Resources Needed
      • Space for lab work to be conducted
      • Partnership with local hospitals in Sierra Leone
      • Funds for continued development and production of the test strips
      • Materials for the creation of a conveyor belt (or we could buy it… $5,000)
  • Outcomes for Fall 2021
    • Project Goals (Responsibilities)
      • Improve test strip (based on feedback/experience from fieldwork)
      • Continue to reduce the cost of the device
    • Research Goals (Responsibilities)
      • Evaluate experimental results gained from Sierra Leone patients
      • Improve any gaps in functionality
      • Continue blood sample testing/optimization
    • Resources Needed
      • Space for lab
      • Partnership with St. Luke’s/LVHN and local blood bank
      • Funds for test strip development
      • Resource allocation for scaling of production
