Music is one of the most important elements in my life. I am so passionate about the music I find and listen to, and I use it as a way to express myself emotionally and creatively. I often spend excessive amounts of time on Spotify discovering new music and artists, because finding new songs that I love excites me. I also love to share songs and artists with other people because I think music provides a great platform to connect and relate to the people around me. A few months ago I discovered Samm Henshaw, a fairly new and young artist in the industry who is slowly gaining popularity. If you haven’t heard of him I would definitely check him out; not only is he incredibly talented with his music, his music videos are extremely cool and creative and he has easily become one of my favorites. I linked my 2 favorite videos below, watch them!

I totally agree with this! Discovering new music or new artists that are kind of unknown is one of the best feelings. It becomes personal and their music becomes yours. I discovered an artist named Dean Lewis a couple of months ago who has recently become very popular for his song “Be Alright” and released an album last week. For the time that it felt like only I really only knew him, music becomes personal. You begin to relate to the lyrics on a much more personal level. This is one of my best times when the artist is completely yours and in return you are completely theirs.

I can definitely relate to the social aspect of discovering and sharing new music. One of my favorite things is when I beat one of my friends to discovering a new song or artist and I am able to share it with them. I also definitely find that I seek music that reflects the mood I am in, which makes sense since Spotify has an entire section devoted to listening to playlist curated according to your mood. I think there is a lot of creativity related directly to the action of trying to match music with emotion because although an artist may have written a song that lines up well with how you are feeling, there are so many songs out there that by the time you find the one that matches your emotions, your mood may have changed. Finding new music is definitely a frustrating experience, but well worth it in the end!
