Horses of the Sun

Hôtel de Rohan/Strasbourg
Robert Le Lorrain (1666-1743)
1731-1738

Stone carving on the exterior of the Hotel de Rohan depicting men and horses. This carving is a fanciful depiction of men and animals interacting. This is Baroque style because of the dramatics:  the dreamlike clouds and bursts of light from the lefthand side (which is also similar to the technique used in the apse of St. Peter’s Basilica).
