“Titanic Rising” is not the experience its title hints at

I’m conflicted here, and a little disappointed too. The star-power (no puns intended — I promise!) of singles like “Andromeda” and “Movies”, whose astral leanings teased an album promising, do not represent well the tracks that Weyes Blood has compiled here. “Titanic Rising” is spacey and ethereal, sure; the payoff is equally substantial. Most tracks equate a sugar high equal parts sweet and forgettable. Or, lending to the space metaphor,  a trip the cosmos by VR where there’s no serious investment in your spacewalk; it just looks nice. Call me mean-spirited or unnecessarily grounded, but this is a difficult experience to invest in, especially ten times over. An overall blissful and atmospheric sheen loses out to a track flow that feels directionless and ambling in the long run. It’s nice to have on though, I guess.
