Professor Gupta’s Corporate Social Responsibility course offers an exciting opportunity for overall growth. I am eager to improve my conversational skills, particularly in discussing controversial topics. Being able to engage in calm, logical debates has always impressed me as it shows openness and intelligence. I am looking forward to learning how to navigate these discussions effectively, both in everyday life and in a professional context. I also expect that some of the conversations we have in class will alter the way I view different topics. By human nature, I hold preconceptions, but I anticipate having them challenged in the process of gaining a deeper understanding of complex social issues.

While I am not entirely sure what to expect from the Internship Seminar, I am interested in learning about common cultural issues in the workplace and the differences between work environments in Italy and the US. While I’ve already developed some communication, teamwork, and conflict mediation skills through various team projects, I am excited to refine them in an Italian context. I believe this seminar will not only prepare me to work in global environments but also make me a better student when I return to Lehigh in the fall. With a deeper understanding of cultural nuances and matured interpersonal skills, I will be able to add meaningful contributions to team projects, drawing from a background of different perspectives.

I am currently a junior, but had to take a few courses over the past summer, so this will be my first internship. As I explore potential internship opportunities and prepare for interviews, I am excited to contribute to a dynamic work environment and apply my skills to real-world situations. Regardless of the specific position I obtain, I anticipate developing invaluable skills in communication, cultural competence, and problem-solving. To do so, and excel as an intern, it will be important to carry a mindset of curiosity and flexibility. Overall, I aim to make the most of my internship experience by remaining open to new ideas and actively seeking to understand workplace dynamics.

I have already curated a list of places I would like to go and activities I would like to do while in Italy, including taking a glassblowing lesson in Venice and visiting the open-air markets in Milan. While I only know a couple of people in this program, I am looking forward to making new friends to experience it with. Taking the advice to say yes to as many opportunities as possible, I am prepared to step out of my comfort zone to fully embrace this trip and immerse myself in the Italian culture. I am also searching for good hiking and running trails to appreciate Italy’s scenic landscapes and would love to find some people who share this interest.
