CHM110 Peer Mentors

Amanda Ferrante
Bioengineering 2020
I understand how difficult orgo can be at first, but I love solving puzzles, and that’s how I viewed orgo problems. I love Disney!

Behavioral Neuroscience

I decided to be a peer mentor for orgo because my own peer mentors helped me to not only understand the general rules of organic chemistry, but also helped me grasp how these rules translated to specific reactions. With their help, I was able to really grasp what my professor was trying to teach me in lecture. Working with a peer mentor made me a better student overall and I would love to be able to do that for other students.
Ashley Maziarz

I decided to be a peer mentor for orgo because I found the peer mentor program to be very helpful in my learning process. It allowed me to ask any questions that I had in a smaller group setting and work through problems with my peers.
Krishna Patel
Behavioral Neuroscience 2020
My name is Krishna Patel and I am a neuroscience major at Lehigh. I decided to be an Orgo Peer Mentor because I wanted to help students in Organic Chemistry similar to when peer leaders have helped me in Orgo! I enjoyed Orgo a lot and hope to help anyone who is taking Orgo I/II. I am also pre-med, so feel free to ask me questions about that as well.
Nicole Capogna
Biochemistry 2020
My name is Nicole Capogna and I am a Junior, Biochemistry major at Lehigh. I decided to become a peer leader for organic chemistry because it was by far my favorite and most interesting class I have taken thus far, and wish to help other students feel the same way about this challenging class.
Mary Casey
Biology 2020
I decided to be peer mentor for organic chemistry to be able to give back what my peer leaders taught me. I think it will directly help students that are confused and who may be afraid to ask questions! I am junior pre-med student who plays on the soccer team and runs track here at Lehigh.
Layna Mager
Biology 2019
Iā€™m a senior here studying biology. I was a peer mentor last year and really liked being able to help other students out.
Leigh Friedman
Biology 2020
I decided to be a peer mentor to offer a unique perspective on organic chemistry to students who struggle with the material. Organic chemistry did not come easily to me at first, but after practice, I was able to become competent, and I want to help other students do the same. Although my major is not chemistry, it has always been one of my favorite classes. I believe that when you enjoy learning about a topic, it is easier to teach and explain it.
Destiny West
Biology & HMS 2020
I decided to be a peer mentor because I would like students to feel comfortable asking organic chemistry questions to better understand the material. I can also offer insight and assist student in regards to their other STEM classes.

I think it is tremendously important for students to have as many options as possible when it comes to getting help outside of the classroom. There is definitely something to be said for the value of peer tutoring, as it is a different way of learning that eliminates the fear factor of asking a teacher for help. I hope to give to the Orgo Peer Mentoring program all that peer tutoring has provided me in the past and more.
Dixie Miller
Biology (Pre-Med) 2019
I decided to be a peer mentor for organic chemistry because it is a challenging course, and having people to go to for help and advice was a huge part of my success throughout the class. Additionally, organic chemistry plays a huge role in things we see and do everyday, and I love studying the topic. I am a senior pre-med student at Lehigh, I am involved in many extracurricular activities and organizations, and I really enjoy helping people. šŸ™‚
