What is Wellness to You?

The word “wellness” generates so much buzz that I don’t even like to use it to describe my lifestyle. However, I do try to eat clean, stay healthy both physically and mentally, and recycle as much as possible. Isn’t that what wellness is about?

Well, it depends on who you ask. In recent years living well and eating clean have broadened beyond just having a serving of fruits and veggies with every meal. Nowadays serious bragging rights come with the acts of composting, living meat and/or dairy free, raising plants, tending to your own garden, and upholding what is known as a zero waste lifestyle. Resources like Goop and Well + Good are at the forefront of the wellness movement. Though the former receives much criticism and scrutiny for its (at times) questionable information, there is no doubt a huge audience for this kind of content.

So, let’s circle back to what wellness means to me and ultimately what this blog is going to be about. Wellness isn’t just about looking good, it’s about feeling it. You can’t be well if your mind and stomach are in knots with anxiety. You also can’t be well if you eat fast food once a day–opposed to a few times a month. On this blog I’ll share recipes, tips and tricks, and any information I’ve gained about how to live well, according to me. In the meantime I invite you to share whatever you think wellness is, and anyway–what does wellness mean to you?
