In, “An Immersive System with Multi-modal Human-computer Interaction” Zhao details and introduces the concept of the prioritization of human needs in relation to human computer interaction as a means of communication technology.
Zhao’s research focuses heavily on the technical aspects of multi-modal human computer interaction within communication technology which was very dense. Throughout all of his well researched technical perspectives and arguments, Zhao indirectly characterized multi-modal human-computer interaction in regards to communication technology as a major shift in the overarching focus communication technology has and will have from this point forward.
As a critique, this research paper would have been more engaging and interesting if this major shift was at the forefront of Zhao’s argument rather than in the background of the technical jargon he used. There is immense potential in the validity of the shift of communication technology from the focus being what technology can do in terms of communication and now what technology can do specifically for humans in terms of communication. The validity of this shift in technological ideology remains to be true today.
As all sectors of technology continue to advance the more the actual technology focuses on human need and tunes into the quality of human-computer interaction as a whole. As technology continues to advance, eventually a roadblock will appear in which producers of ideas for technological advancements will push to overcome. The answer to overcoming this roadblock in ideological technological advancements is to continually improve the quality and ease of how humans interact with communication technology.
I did not do this reading, however, I agree that the shift towards wanting technology to aid humans and be user-friendly is incredibly important, and it would have benefitted the article to focus on that important shift.
