Since 2019, we have worked with clinical and community partners in Sierra Leone to design short documentary stories that amplify the voices of women.
These films are designed for Sierra Leonean audiences, highlight important issues in antenatal, perinatal, and postnatal care, and encourage more young Sierra Leonean men and women to pursue careers in maternal health care.

Nahjiah Miller (CAS 2024), Christine Kwon (COH, 2024), Tristan Fang (COE, 2023), and Sandrine Haab (CAS, 2023) conduct an interview in Summer 2022.
We are also now collaborating with the University of Makeni on a series of teaching module films designed for West African university students. These films emphasize maternal health as the origin story of population health and revolve around West African health concerns.
In Summer 2025, we began a new collaboration with the Aberdeen Women’s Centre, the University of Makeni, Loreto Health Clinic, and Media Matters for Women, in which we trained women to develop and share their own stories about their maternal health experiences. Please see this short film about our film training work in Sierra Leone.
All of our films are available on our YouTube page.
