Recently I went to an open mic event at Godfrey Daniels, a music bar on 4th street in Bethlehem. The atmosphere of the venue was so welcoming, and I could immediately perceive the sense of community there. I watched from the few chairs and rows of pews set up in the back as people took turns playing their music onstage. I had zero expectations walking in, but I was so pleasantly surprised. To see people with the courage and vulnerability to play original music in front of strangers was so inspiring. These individuals were so passionate, and everyone there was extremely kind and supportive. One performer mentioned that he had been a member of the community for 37 years. It inspired me to stay committed to things I enjoy doing, even if they seem small/unimportant. I really recommend going to check it out because everybody there was so talented and enjoyable to watch/listen to (it’s also a 2 minute walk from Farrington Square so it’s not far).
I found this to be very cool. Iv never gone to one of these but i have seen videos and there have been scenes in tv shows and movies at open mic nights and it is something I have always wanted to go to. You get to see so many different talented people and get to enjoy some of the stories they tell just like you did. It seems like a fun and different thing to do then just going to the same places every week. This is something I definitely plan on doing at some point in the future.
I also have never been to an Open Mic night, but I love the idea of everyone doing what they love and doing it because they love it. It’s like we talked about on one of the first days in class that it is okay for someone to do something just for the sole purpose of their own content and just to have fun. It is also important to stick with something you love as a hobby. I personally do not have many things that I LOVE to do just because I love it and I think that when people have that it is great to stick with as an outlet for stress and to be happy.
