One way I try to cultivate my creativity is by setting a goal to take a photo a day. Usually, it’s on my walk home from class when I see something beautiful and want to remember it. I don’t use a camera, just my phone. It’s a relatively simple goal too so it makes me feel accomplished when I complete it every day. This helps me be more present and look around. I am more in the moment and able to see the smaller details around me. Also, it helps me appreciate my world more by stopping and soaking it in.
Sometimes, I send them to my parents back home. I don’t go home very much and my parents don’t visit me a lot so this is a good way to show them the parts of my world that I enjoy. By taking one a day, I can share my highlight with them and they can see through my eyes for a second. They don’t even have to be great or amazing, just something I like to look at.

I can relate to this on some level. I love taking pictures of the nature/wildlife on campus. I really love the squirrels and the deer, so sometimes I sneak a picture of them when they’re looking extra cute. Other times I will take a picture of the sunset shining through the leaves on a tree or colorful fall leaves on the ground. One of my favorite pictures that I have captured is one of flower petals on a bench. I will admit I arranged the petals to look better in the picture, but nevertheless I was using the flowers as inspiration for a creative photo.

I relate to this post a ton. When I am traveling, or even when the trees begin to change colors at Lehigh, I find myself always needing to take photos of the environment around me. When I was studying abroad, I noticed myself taking at least one photo every day, so that at the end of the trip I would put each picture into a slideshow. There are apps on iPhones that you can download that will remind you to take a photo or a 1-second video a day, and then at the end of the year or however many months you set it for, it automatically makes a little movie for you. You should try it!
