Before I start a brief description The Way of the Househusband if you’ve only seen parts of it and don’t fully know what it’s about.
Tatsu, an infamous and feared yakuza boss nicknamed “the Immortal Dragon”, retires from crime to become a househusband so that he can support Miku, his kyariaūman wife. The episodic series depicts a variety of comedic scenarios, typically wherein Tatsu’s banal domestic work as a househusband is juxtaposed against his intimidating personality and appearance, and his frequent run-ins with former yakuza associates and rivals. – Synopsis from MAL
Basically it’s just the everyday antics of a former yakuza doing everyday househusband things. Overall it’s a funny show but the jokes can get stale after a bit since most of it is Tatsu does everyday task with immense flair and everyone misjudges him at first but then they all love him. For me that repetition and the lower budget animation made me lose interest. It’s funny to pick up every now and then but watching it seriously wasn’t for me.
That’s what I thought when someone recommended I read Sakamoto Days, a story about an ex legendary hitman who now works at as a humble convivence store owner. Instead of being a simple slice of life comedy like Househusband, Sakamoto Days has an actual serious plot, his past is still following him and he needs to go back to keep his family out of harms way. There’s a wide cast of characters that I actually remembered instead of in Househusband where I was just like oh yeah that guy who just follows Tatsu around. I could be like oh yeah, that’s Shin, I just got to his backstory with the scientist. I read the 50 or so chapters in the span of a couple weeks and the series is still ongoing. Overall it’s a great series with solid story and characters while also having that similar comedy as Househusband. Since Househusband recently came out and I saw a decent amount of people liked it, I wanted to bring some attention to Sakamoto days. Hope people give it a shot and enjoy it as much as I did.
Sooo yeah,
Grace
