Comments from nominator:
dePaul Miller: Over the time that I have known him, Roberto has worked hard to mentor me. He has helped me in developing my ability to research and communicate what I discover. He has also given me a lot of great guidance in my academic pursuits. Also, he creates an awesome and welcoming environment for his students in the Scalable Systems and Software lab.
Jacob Nelson: Both Ahmed and Roberto have been incredibly influential in my life. Not only have they demonstrated how to conduct effective research, but they have also taught me a lot about life. I am deeply grateful for all of the time and energy they have spent over the last several years to help me become a better scientist and person. They are not only excellent mentors and role models but also dear friends. Simply, I cannot imagine my life without them.
Mentor comments:
Mentoring means giving back the experience and knowledge I accumulated over the years to students who approach me for a learning journey. Mentoring is the most rewarding aspect of being a faculty; witnessing students, both struggling and not, early on in their academic career, and contribute to shaping their future.
