1982

1982 was a movie released in 2013 focused primarily on a family that struggles with drug addiction. In the early onset of the Crack epidemic in Philadelphia, Tim, the main character tries to protect his daughter from his coke addicted wife. His wife, Shenae, relapses after a late lover get released from prison and she begins down the distant path of addiction once again. The movie continues to show how addiction destroys their family and drives them into poverty. Similar to the movie, throughout my research I touched on many of the side effects an impacts of addiction. Students that deal with addiction find themselves in bad positions academically, socially and financially. After a while, buying the very drugs that is making them feel good is digging a deeper hole in their pocket. In the film, addiction puts huge strain on this small  family and these symptoms can be seen similarly in college students. Relationships start to form based solely on substance abuse and stealing and lying can lead to a bad end result. Although several points throughout the movie are exaggerated, the overall perspective and main takeaways are relevant to real life.
