Cultural Identity
Dear Students, Staff and Faculty,
The Education and Dialogue group of the Council for Equity and Community is hosting the first in a series of open campus conversations around challenging issues. We’re calling the series Tackling Tough Topics Together. This Brown Bag Discussion – which is open to all members of the campus community — will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, October 14th in the Global Commons area of Williams Hall.
The theme of our first discussion will be cultural introductions. The topic encourages participants to think about the identities that define them and the challenges associated with these identities. We’ll be introducing and using the Guidelines for Effective Dialogue developed by VISIONS, Inc. as we engage in conversation.
Recent events on campus, across the country, and around the globe have highlighted the importance of working across group boundaries and striving for greater understanding of those who are different from us. We believe Tackling Tough Topics Together will help provide the tools and the forum to accomplish this goal.
We’ll provide the coffee, cookies, brownies and discussion moderators. You bring the dialogue.
We hope to see you Friday.
