CEC Monthly Update: March 2023

The entire CEC meets on a monthly basis to discuss working groups’ plans and progress.

In the interest of transparency, following each meeting we post a brief recap of what was discussed, as well as any action items.

Highlights from the March 2023 meeting are listed below:

Upcoming:

    • March 2 and 3: Two more Traveling While Black follow-up sessions (open to all) with DAR team members; More events hosted around the Lehigh Valley and the ongoing exhibit (until April) at Zoellner

    • March 4-8: The Marcon Institute presents the first annual Radical Love Conference Events over the four days reflect the teachings and writings of bell hooks. Enjoy documentary viewings, meet and greet with therapy dogs, hear from panels of experts, and engage in care activities (please follow the link provided to register for the events of your choosing)

    • March 9: Out on Campus: A History of LGBTQ+ Activism at PA Colleges & Universities opening reception, 4-5 pm at Linderman Library Rotunda

    • March 29: An Afternoon with Dr. Imani Perry, 4:30 pm in Williams Hall, Roemmele Global Commons. Book signing, with books available for purchase, beginning at 5:30. This event was originally scheduled for an earlier date and the site has not yet been updated with new details, so I have included the updated flyer below. (book club discussion also offered by Bethlehem Public Library for Dr. Perry’s on March 15)

    • March 31: Dr. Frank L. Douglas ’66 speaks as part of the close of Traveling While Black. Dr. Douglas is among the first Black graduates of Lehigh and the author of Defining Moments Of A Free Man From a Black Stream and Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem

Action Items / Next Steps:

    • Attend one program centered around diversity, inclusion, and equity before the end of the semester
