Zoning: This investigation involves students exploring the governmental working of zoning laws and identifying the areas around Building 21. Students explore land use over time utilizing maps, and gather data on their own identifying what types of buildings they see while investigating their local area. This data is then combined between multiple class periods and can be compared with zoning maps of Allentown. Students will further explore types of land use in the areas surrounding Allentown. Mentors will help with data gathering and building identification, as well as provide crucial information to students regarding the methods of zoning, zoning changes, and uses of zoning and zoning laws.
