They said he couldn’t do it
A kid from the streets to college
Ain’t ever gonna quit
All he wanted was knowledge

They said he can’t afford it
A private institution, cost was high
No one taught him how to quit
Job after job, got the strength to defy

They said he won’t finish it
First to go beyond high school
Obvious that the kid won’t just sit
Take every opportunity possible, that was the rule

They said a lot of things
Money
       Experience
Network
Academic smarts     Ain’t got that
But four years later, that kid did almost everything
Four years, I am grateful for all that
