Prospective Students

Undergraduate Research Assistants

As a research assistant in the Little Learners Lab, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in conducting research with infants and children. Research assistants in the lab are responsible for recruiting participants, conducting experiments, and coding data. Research assistants are also expected to attend weekly lab meetings with the rest of the lab members.

For undergraduate students at Lehigh, we offer class credit for PSYC 161. For post-bac students and students outside Lehigh, we are currently unable to offer paid positions, but may be able to offer volunteering opportunities.

Interested students can submit an application here.

Graduate Students

The lab plans to recruit a graduate student this application cycle (Fall 2025) to begin in the Fall of 2026. Applicants interested in joining the lab should feel free to reach out to Dr. Smith-Flores via email with a brief summary of your research experience, interests, and a copy of your CV.

To be a good fit with the lab, you should be interested in using the kinds of methods and populations we typically use — that is, behavioral / experimental methods with infants and young children. You should also have experience with developmental research, and engagement with current literature on social cognitive development or affective cognition — though general cognitive development is also welcomeYou should be able to talk about questions you’re interested in, and what makes your interests and experiences a good fit with the lab.

Note that the lab doesn’t currently utilize neuroscience methods such as fNIRS or EEG, nor does it work with clinical populations like children with ASD. We don’t currently plan to expand in these directions.

Prospective graduate students who are interested in applying to work with Dr. Smith-Flores may also consider applying for the NSF GRFP if they are eligible. Learn more about the NSF GRFP here.
