Due to covid-19, artists and cultural organizations everywhere are suffering from a dramatic loss of opportunities, ticket revenue and grants, which is deeply troubling because a healthy creative sector contributes to a region’s long term economic growth.
“Many that I know are struggling with worries, fears, economic instability, the disappointment of having worked on projects for months sometimes years only to have them cancelled or postponed.” – Artist from Lehigh Valley
As Covid-19 continues to hinder the economy, artist suffer from greater financial losses. From our first impact assessment in April, we found that artist were concerned with art related job loss, bills, utilities, etc. From our second impact assessment in May, we found that artists are more concerned with homelessness, bills, and financial stress. Clearly, the artists need help now more than ever.
“This could be a moment to build up artists and grassroots organizations and truly invest in powerful arts organizations and artists. I believe that art is essential especially for the healing to begin from this traumatic National event we are all feeling.” – Artist from Lehigh Valley
We as a society will also need the arts to help us recover from Covid-19 because the arts is essential to the mental health and cultural identity of a healthy economy. Donate Now to LV Arts and Cultural Relief Fund.
