NYC

As part of my research, I created specific boundaries to collect data from the #metoo in the New York City area. Here is what I found.

Retweet Count

In the Retweet Count map, it is interesting to notice that the areas with higher number of retweets are throughout Manhattan and the outskirts of Brooklyn.
User Followers Count
With the User Followers Count map it is interesting to see that the people with
the most followers are living mostly throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Conclusion
Both these maps help depict how a trend or movement starts and grows. Because the #metoo movement has started to slow down, it makes sense that the remaining tweet contributors live in Brooklyn – an area known for being very young, urban and diverse. It also makes sense that the number of retweets would be the highest in the most densely populated areas – Manhattan and Brooklyn.
It can be gathered from the visuals that a twitter movement occurs, grows and lasts from the tweets from individuals with many followers, and then other twitter members’s contribution by spreading the tweet through retweets.
