For this project, we were tasked with creating a sheet metal phone stand using the water jet.
Design creation:
I kept my design simple so that there would be minimal edges sticking out to accidentally cut yourself on since the waterjet creates a burr on the material as it cuts through it. This is what I came up with:
The thin horizontal slots are for the bends of the sheet metal and the thick slots are for a phone charger to go through.
Prototype and Iterate:
To make sure my design would work, I laser-cut out a prototype of it to see if it was how I envisioned it.
On the first iteration, I realized that some of the distances between the slots should be adjusted to have better proportions. After adjusting the dimensions and laser-cutting to check, I had a model I was ready to water jet.
