Zavier and Omar working on skill development

The team awoke to the sights and smells of fresh rain, symbolizing a clean slate and a new day. Upon arrival at the World Hope International office, Sofía called a team meeting to disseminate the day’s strategy. She emphasized the importance of doing fieldwork tests and getting contacts at various PHUs while still maximizing the operating capabilities of the skills we have. There were two fieldwork teams and one “home base” team to reach as many of our targets as possible. Elif and Zavier made up one of the fieldwork teams, with their visit to Branda hospital being shorter than expected. They arrived to Branda and met the hospital’s secretary, but were ultimately asked to return the next day at noon, so they can have a formal meeting with the hospital’s director. Concurrently, Rachel, Omar, and their translator Randolph went to Stocco Dof clinic and Loretto hospital to network the project and get contacts.

They reported that both locations were incredibly busy with patients, as they are both closed Sundays. Meanwhile, Sofía, Aabi, and Eric were busy working on a variety of small projects: preparing for a 2pm meeting with Lehigh University’s Library and Technology Services regarding a new API, recording instructional videos on how to use the Alexa, digitizing notes, and (virtual) networking. When the team regrouped in the early afternoon to delegate the day’s remaining tasks, Eric and Aabi delivered the unfortunate news that the new API that includes Google Translate wouldn’t be able to be implemented for another four weeks. The team mutually agreed that the use of that API would be in the team’s best interest, as it feeds into the long-term sustainability of the project. For the rest of the day, the team was working on supplementing the content they already had.
