Hi, it’s your friendly neighborhood AISHA team! We started our day off with a smile on our faces. A trip to the beach is happening next week on Tuesday! Our first day off since we got here and we are excited! But coming back to work, AISHA had multitudes of tasks ahead of them today.

Upon our arrival at the office, AISHA proceeded to work on the next sparring presentation coming up on Sunday. We utilized our time there to create a completely new presentation with the new draft incorporating our goals, vision, product details, and business strategy. After making considerable progress on that, we left the office for our appointments.

Juliana, Natalie and Simone split up from the group and went to Loreto Hospital for a meeting with Sister Adama, the only mental health nurse at Loreto. They obtained valuable information from the mental health specialist, learning that she had been a nursing aide for 13 years and a community health nurse for 2.5 years. Nurse Adama was very invested in our product, technologically advanced for Sierra Leone, and agreed to another meeting the following day for a demo of the device. This is great progress for the AISHA team, but still we had to deliberate if this was the best place to put the device in.

After getting picked up from Loreto, the team was reunited once again, we headed off to Makeni Regional Hospital. Our first stop was to stop by Sister Margaret’s to demo her our device. This was the first demo we did, and it didn’t go as well as we planned. The device took a long time to be set up, and we observed that nurse Margaret felt really uncomfortable since there were so many of us and we were trying to distract her since the decide wasn’t working. However, when the device started working, it was smooth sailing and she was very impressed with our device and the capabilities of it. After this, we reflected on what parts we can improve on since this was our first demo, and that we decided that overall it was successful just for the little technical issues that we faced. The team then decided to split up, to talk to different nursing interns in the hospital to gauge the validity of our new use case quizzes. Overall, the feedback from all of the interns were positive and we can feel the excitement from them when we showed them, since this was something new and something that they have never seen before. We inquired about how they ask questions and what we learned was that they sometimes would ask their superiors, but most of the time liked to learn it before as their superiors may quiz them on different topics. If they got it wrong, they will learn it in their own time in order to not get it wrong again. This allowed us to validate our use case for quizzes and answers and see how it is useful for interns to study and refresh on knowledge.

The team then treated ourselves to some delicious coconuts and corn that we bought by the hospital. We devoured all the food in a matter of minutes after a long days of work. We were ready to leave but eric informed us that since there was only one car available, we had to wait around one and a half hours until the car came to pick us up, so the team has a bonding session in a gazebo under the rain. After arriving back at WHI, we wrapped up the day and went back to the hotel to wait for the delicious food Khanjan bought us from Freetown. So and so, today was a tiring but productive day.
