After an eventful night, the AISHA crew woke up to a fresh, clean morning. Apparently a rainstorm had brewed by. After a very delicious breakfast, we grouped together to head to our workspace at World Hope International Office. The team had an in-depth meeting about our action plans for the day. We talked about how we want to continue our approach to PHUs and the clinicians that worked there. We have decided to split into two groups to do a project demo. Following the guidelines, detail by detail, we stopped every so often to discuss what one should say in each scenario, and the proactive measures we need to take in order to make sure the clinician or healthcare workers felt as comfortable as possible. Giving feedback to our own team members helped strengthen the core details and ideas we want to hit. Just as the first team finished their demo, we had a visitor. It was Hassan, our long anticipated savior of the day!
Hassan was the shining light we needed today. Three of our team members introduced the team and the intentions of our project. They continued to talk about our purpose and asked if he was willing to see a demonstration. He was more than happy to check our project. One of our tech people displayed the project and Hassan, to say the least, was delighted. He was very happy with the potential of the project at hand. He gave us his feedback and how he was willing to help us whenever possible. His availability is Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So we will try our best to accommodate his schedule and utilize his generosity to its fullest potential. He wrote us a couple of different PHUs/CHUs that he knows. The feedback and information he had provided with us was invaluable, and we can not thank him enough.
After the meeting with Hassan, our team went straight to work, diligently working to get some outcomes to show. Three of us were working on editing the code, and fixing the API, toxicity prevention, speech, and invocation. Others were working on the instruction manual and creating a domain to post the blogs. Some were working on further polishing the guidelines followed when interacting with PHUs, and reaching out to others to further expand our connections in Sierra Leone healthcare. The rest were working on the budget, editing and allocating some of the money to the hotspot, translator, biscuits, and baskets. On top of that, they worked on sorting through the photos and creating a medication spreadsheet for ease of access. We have also identified three different trips that our crew can go on. This is how we decided to split our groups: Two people will go back to Mabinty, two will go to Holy Spirit Hospital, and three people will go with Hassan to different PHUs.
At the midpoint of the day, while the team, still diligently working but also having fun, a woman came up to us to sell her snacks. There were a variety of munchies like banana bread, fried dough, and others! They were cheap and delicious, who can ask for more! Afterwards, most of the team went out to buy an energy drink from the local vendors.
Nearing the end of the day, we decided to reconvene, to make sure that everyone understands what needs to be accomplished tomorrow and that everyone is on the same page when it comes to the guidelines. We spent the last twenty minutes in our own respective groups practicing and strategizing. And with that being said, it is dinner time and cannot wait for more delicious bread and beans and green stuff!
