Ajeet Rohatgi earned his doctorate degree in metallurgy and materials science from Lehigh University in 1977. Dr. Rohatgi joined the ECE faculty at Georgia Tech in 1985 and started a program on photovoltaics, which has become one of the best in the country. He has become an internationally recognized leader in photovoltaics, and is the founding director of the first university-based Department of Energy Center of Excellence for Photovoltaic Research and Education (UCEP) at Georgia Tech. The center was established to advance the science of photovoltaic devices and systems, increase the availability of education in the area of photovoltaics and to improve university-industry collaboration.
