GRO Mushrooms is a Lehigh University-affiliated social venture that seeks to establish mushroom production systems in low-resource environments in order to strengthen local food security.
Our current work is focused on developing low-tech outdoor cultivation methods for use in Sierra Leone, a country where food insecurity is a significant issue. With support from our nonprofit partner World Hope International and Lehigh’s Office of Creative Inquiry, we hope to establish an initial mushroom production facility in Makeni, Sierra Leone, and eventually expand to a network of several facilities providing affordable mushrooms to people in various parts of the country.
