A Message from the Council for Equity and Community

Dear Lehigh Community,

Recent media reports detail ongoing litigation involving the University and allegations of harassment. The Council for Equity and Community (CEC) recognizes that the assertions regarding harassment are concerning, particularly in light of other issues and incidents experienced on our campus.

Although the CEC does not play a role in litigation, we are concerned for, and invested in supporting, our faculty, staff, and students who have experienced any form of harassment or discrimination. All are valued members of our community and we support any individuals who have experienced trauma based on any aspect of their social identity. We recognize the ramifications of such trauma and remain committed to our work in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at Lehigh. The CEC will also continue to communicate directly with the highest levels of our institutional leadership and clearly express our campus expectation that all laws, University policies, and The Principles of Our Equitable Community are adhered to, both in letter and in spirit.

The CEC maintains its independent advisory role and continues to serve as an entity that advocates for a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse Lehigh. We do not have, nor is it our role to have, all of the answers and power to change things alone. But, at this time, we reaffirm our belief that we are a community that will continue to move toward a better Lehigh together, and we are committed to working alongside you in that endeavor.
