Where’s Joe? The Ghost of Bethlehem Steel, Part I. Digital photographs by Theo Anderson
June 3, 2005 - September 30, 2005
Artist’s Statement
I wanted to explore the modern day archeological site. During my initial visit, I thought of my feelings and emotions while visiting Mesa Verde years earlier. Are the walls and structures of Bethlehem Steel our cliff dwellings, cave paintings or canyon walls? Are these grounds in some way sacred? What has become of those who were here? At times I could sense the presence of the steelworkers who had passed through the buildings. When a train passed by, it felt as though the machinery were moving and alive. This sense of mystery and questioning is what I hope to convey through the photographs.
These images were captured using Canon 1d MK II digital camera and lenses. The digital negatives (raw files) are processed using Adobe Photoshop CS. Final archival digital prints were produced using an Epson Stylus Pro 4000 printer with Epson inks and Moab Entrada paper. Final prints are 12″ x 18″ on 17″ x 22″ paper.
