Lissie Habié: PHOTOGRAPHY
August 29, 2011 - December 2, 2011
Guatemalan photographer Lissie Habié (1954-2008) began her photographic career at age 32, and was to a great extent self-taught. Throughout her career she experimented with a combination of early photographic techniques to create a lush charcoal-like effect reminiscent of fin-de-siècle pioneers like Gertrude Käsebier. This album contains a selection of images that speak to some of her favorite subjects: time, space, and light, and their influence on humanity.
The Memorial Album was published in 2009 by the New Roots Foundation, an organization founded by Habié and her husband Mitchell Denberg to provide assistance and education to young girls at risk, and to the preservation of unique ecosystems in Guatemala.
This exhibition is part of Lehigh Valley Photography Month. Beginning with ArtsQuest’s InVision Photo Festival, November 3-6, more than 20 local galleries and arts organizations will partner to showcase a vibrant selection of contemporary and traditional photography.
