On Presidents & Superheroes

Egyptian painter and video artist Khaled Hafez produces bathing beauties and muscle-men that are each part
superhero, part classical god. Batman/Anubis figures intrude in a Middle Eastern landscape where the
representation of the body is deeply contested. Presented in conjunction with Invision Photo Fest 2014.

BIO

Khaled Hafez is born in Cairo, Egypt in 1963 where he currently lives and works. He studied medicine and pursued
evening classes in fine arts in the 1980s. After attaining a degree as a medical specialist in 1992, he gave up his
medical practice to focus on a career in the arts. He later obtained an MFA in new media and digital arts from
Transart Institute (New York, USA) and Danube University Krems (Austria). Hafez practice spans the mediums of
painting, video, photography, installation and interdisciplinary approaches.
