MADE IN ITALY: Sketches and Color Studies from the Lehigh in Rome and Florence study abroad programs
August 16, 2004 - September 24, 2004
Art History Professor Ann Priester and Professor of Art Lucy Gans led a four-week study program in some of Italy’s most beautiful places, particularly Rome and Florence. Students were immersed in the rich visual culture through visits to historic sites, museums, churches and gardens. They were trained to look critically and creatively at the relationship between art and culture. Research was gathered in Florence and Rome in the traditional form, sketching from works in the museums, streets and environments of Italy, as artists have done for centuries. Students came from a variety of majors, representing all three undergraduate colleges. Each participant created 15 postcards as a portfolio of their experience. These are on exhibit along with drawings, pastel studies and watercolor sketches.
