FreeIn conjunction with the exhibition María Martínez-Cañas. Join us for a gallery conversation with the artist at the LUAG Main Gallery, Zoellner Arts Center, 6PM. Reception to follow. All LUAG events are free and open to the public.
María Martínez-Cañas was born in 1960, Havana, Cuba. On August 18, her family left Cuba for Miami. In 1964, her family moved to Puerto Rico. In 1968, she started working with a Polaroid Swinger camera that her parents give her as a present. Her mother gave her an old Twin-Lens Rolleiflex that she brought out of Cuba. Her parents encouraged their daughter’s interest in photography. Early on, the artist became fascinated with the laboratory aspect of photography and asked her parents to build her a darkroom at home…
