A foreign encounter,
an odd kind.
Odd, yet,
thrilling?
Setting foot upon this new territory.
What was I thinking?
Choosing to wander alone,
in such a place.
That fresh face,
that messy mane,
that svelte stature,
that and much more.
All these people,
going about their business.
Would it be wrong,
to ask?
In close proximity.
He looks, he gazes, he searches. So ethereal.
Could this be?
Look up, please someone, anyone!
What was I thinking?
I should just turn and go right now,
leave them be.
wait
Is he leaving? That one might know.
Oh no.
Oh yes.
He’s coming back.
She seems approachable.
Numb the nerves,
slow the heart,
close the eyes,
start again.
She looks uncomfortable,
like deer in the headlights.
She looks out of place,
like me.
What to say,
what to do.
Open your eyes!
Smile?
take a breath
She’s not alien, ask her something simple first- hello?
What am I thinking?!
Smile?
He’s not alien,
brace this moment.
Everything’s aflutter.
Walk.
She’s coming towards me,
that’s a start.
Why am I gawking?
Walk.
Closer. Closer.
The Space. We two.
Slowly. Inching.
Diminishes Together
“Hey.”
“Hi.”
