Saint Savin Ceiling Fresco

Eglise abbatiale de Saint Savin
9th century   Saint Savin-sur-Gartempe, Vienne, France

The nave of this French church has a ceiling fresco. It appears to be a combination of holy subjects interacting with ordinary life (subjects with orbs around their heads trading with and speaking to those without).  The painting is done in a two dimensional style which is purposeful in this artwork.

Abbaye de Cadouin: Stone Sculpture

12th century
Le Buisson-de-Cadouin, Dordogne France
Abbaye de Cadouin

Stone sculptures in the Abbaye de Cadouin. The sculpture shows fan vaulting on both sides. On the left, the carvings are of monks and on the right side is a scene with jesus holding the cross and what appears to be the virgin Mary looking on. On the bottom to the right are small carvings of angels.  The background wall has the remains of a fresco with Christian figures and where it looks like there used to be scripture writing.
