Parklets are small public parks that aim to improve the pedestrian experience in urban neighborhoods to create safer, cleaner, greener, friendlier, and more walkable communities. Parklets, such as the one on Bethlehem’s Broad St., are usually installed within the area of a single parking space, extending the sidewalk outward to include more green space and seating for local foot traffic. Parklets offer a place to stop and rest while visiting a particular city neighborhood. In many cases, including our Broad St. location, parklets partner with local artists, musicians, and businesses to offer a range of family-friend activities in an area that would otherwise not have space for such events.
