On June 7, 2018, lehighvalleylive published “Want more seating in downtown Bethlehem? This parklet could save the day” covering our Broad St. parklet installation. Reporting on the aim of the project, Marisa Iati writes:
The reviews last year were mixed: The parklets were either great places to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine or eyesores tarnishing Bethlehem’s downtown.
When a new parklet — it’s a public seating platform erected over a parking space — comes to Broad Street this summer, organizers say it will be a better-looking structure meant to improve pedestrians’ experience and draw foot traffic to the area.
Community development projects often consider cars more than walkers, organizer Adam Heidebrink-Bruno said, but erecting a parklet outside Joe’s Tavern at 12 W. Broad St. will primarily be about residents and visitors exploring by foot.
