In the article Effects of Web Interactivity: A Meta-Analysis, by Fan Yang and Fuyuan Shen they discuss the ways in which web interactivity can induce positive emotions. These emotions include positive attitudes, enjoyment and behavioral intentions, all are which are interconnected with our use of these multi-faceted web programs.
The authors conducted 63 experiments to understand if this interconnection is possible. Upon their findings, they concluded that there is a positive correlation between these emotions and web interactivity. Although they also found conflicting evidence that says too much web interactivity can lead to “ cognitive overload, frustration, and disorientation.” Yang and Shen concluded through their random effects model, that there is in fact a positive correlation with increased web interactivity and cognitive behaviors.
As other of my classmates have said, I do feel as though this correlation makes sense. Our society has become so heavily reliant on web interactivity, to give us a small sense of euphoria. We use the internet as our escape from the real world. Therefore, it is understandable how this escape could lead us to experience these positive attitudes and enjoyment.
