This exhibition is an exploration into the intersection of art and neuroscience at Lehigh University and the culmination of a summer-long Brain Visualization project funded by the Lehigh University’s Humanities Lab. The charge of this project was to visualize scientific data into medical illustrations suitable for textbook application. Professor Jennifer Swann, from the Biology department and Professor Deirdre Murphy from AAD, co-taught the Brain Visualization seminar to Lehigh AAD art students, Sarrah Hussain and Viola Yu, who were awarded illustration fellowships.
Portraits of the Brain: Visualizing Behavior online exhibition is in conjunction with LUAG’s “Well, Well, Well” exhibition and will include Drawings, Paintings and Animations and site specific installation. In addition to Hussain and Yu’s artwork we are thrilled to include Philadelphia-based professional artists: Rebecca Kamen, Caroline Lathan-Stiefel, and Shelley Thorstensen. Each of these artists has a background in art and science and art education. The artists also acted as Visiting Artists during the summer program.
In addition to the online exhibition and programming there will be a 5 x 10 in the fall. The Brain Visualization Project is in collaboration with LUAG, Humanities Lab and LTS.
